The Beverley 10km and Fun Run events form the main fund raiser for the Club.  Without these, many of the benefits members enjoy may not be possible.  These include such things as:

  • subsidised food on away nights and other events;
  • presentation dinner dance;
  • sessions with qualified coaches;
  • Funded trips/entries to relays and cross country races.

It is critical that we gain support from as many members as possible to put these events on and therefore members are encouraged and expected to play their part (and then with a clear conscience race the remaining 51 Sundays of the year).  The day requires over 110 volunteers at any one time to ensure all positions are covered to deliver a safe and enjoyable event that meets our licence agreements.  The club is fortunate to have a large membership, the support of friends of the club and sponsors, but it remains key for everyone to play their part so that we meet the requirements of UKA, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Humberside Police and the various safety considerations.

Club members (including second claim) are therefore not able to enter the race unless they support the race through volunteering.  Spaces are allocated on the basis of the criteria outlined below.  In doing so the club:

  1. Encourages and rewards those who choose to help out the Club to stage the events;
  2. Promotes the 10km as a big steppingstone for developing the juniors to take part in longer races by allowing eligible junior members to enter the 10km;
  3. Promotes the club as a place where competitive athletes are developed by fielding the Club’s fastest 10km runners in the event.

Eligibility

In all cases, those running are expected to make themselves available to volunteer with event preparation (either preparing race numbers, event registration or pre/post-race day set up and breakdown).  With the exception on No. 5, all members pay their own entry fee.

  1. Any member who has joined in the membership (including second claim) year from 1 April to 31 March prior to the race. All members under this criterion can defer for up to 2 years.  If they have not run it after 3 years they would fall under rule 5.
  2. All eligible Junior members according to UKA rules.
  3. Three fastest male and female runners according to the club rankings not already under criteria 1.
  4. The fastest veterans in each category based on club rankings.
  5. Members who have requested to run the 10K and have regularly volunteered.  These will be selected based on a) sufficient volunteers being available, and b) from the top of the list which will be ordered according to when the member last ran the race.  These will be complimentary places.
  6. A request can be made direct to the Race Secretary in exceptional circumstances to run outside the above criteria.

For the purposes of point 5, members will need to initially ask to be added to the list.  Once they have run under this point they will be removed unless they request to be added back.  Members can request to be added or removed from the list at any time and will be added according to when they last ran the race.

Members include first and second claim, honorary members and friends of the club who volunteer regularly.

If you are intending to not renew your membership in early April and intend to enter the race, please feel free to enter.  However, we would politely ask that you notify our race management team on bevacraces@gmail.com to let us know, so that we do not question your entry.  We will also pass the information on to our membership secretary in order that you be retired from the club at the end of March.  You will not be able to re-join for 3 years and then must pay the new member fee.

Those who have let their membership of the Club lapse (not renewed their membership) from the last membership year as assessed on the 20th April in the current year cannot run in the 10km event as a Beverley AC member.

These rules will be overseen by the club’s Race Secretary in conjunction with relevant officers within the club.
