To give you plenty of notice to get your bike serviced, tyres pumped, chain oiled etc and to add cycling to your training regime (less impact on the joints!) we will be starting our bike rides on ?? and every Thursday evening thereafter (weather permitting). We leave from the Beverley Leisure Centre at 6.30pm and will start with the less undulating routes out of Beverley for the first couple of weeks with around 20 miles leading up to 30-40 miles during the lighter summer nights and finish off at a pub in Beverley for a quick drink, snack and a bit of banter.
Depending on the number of riders we may split into two groups. However, faster riders can go at their own pace but stop to re-group at junctions; we do try not to leave anyone behind. If anyone is interested in leading a slower group on a Thursday evening please let Andy Tate know.
All we ask is that you familiarise yourself with our code of conduct which is a very simple set of guidelines to keep participants on our rides and other road users safe.
Code of Conduct
- Ride safely and always follow the Highway Code
- The rider must ensure that their cycle is in sound mechanical condition and fully equipped for long rides with efficient brakes. Puncture repair kit or spare inner-tube, pump and bike tools must be carried as well as operational front and rear lights.
- Suitable clothing for any weather conditions and a helmet at all times.
- Listen out for calls from other riders in the group and hand signals where they’re indicating a hazard and repeat them so that you warn riders behind you of same.
- Also indicate your intention to stop or change direction.
- Never ride more than two abreast. If you are riding single file within a group, ride behind the inner rider of the pair.
- Please do not pass through any traffic lights on red.
- Do not wave traffic on to pass the group. Drivers need to use their own judgement and awareness to decide when it is safe to pass, based on their own and their vehicle’s capabilities.
- In a large group be prepared to split into smaller groups to allow cars to pass. Leave a gap of about four car lengths.
- Let the riders in front know if you can’t keep up and the group will adjust accordingly.
- Lastly, enjoy your ride.
