Come and run the Beaver Trail Sunday November 23rd at 10:00am 2025.
Beverley Athletic Club once again extends the hand of friendship to all local running clubs and friends to join us for this year’s 27th anniversary of the Beaver Trail run or walk. Meet outside the reception on the grassy area at Beverley Leisure Centre, Flemingate, HU17 0LT for a 10am start. No need to sign up in advance; just show up!
The route was founded by Beverley AC in November 1998, that makes this year the 27th anniversary, and since then we have celebrated the route in an annual event (with the exception of 2020) by inviting anyone to run or walk a distance of their choice. The trail follows a picturesque cross-country “off road” route.
Please note for 2025 there is yet another alternative 10 mile route due to building works around Beverley. Please familiarise yourself with this new route and make use of the maps and GPX files.
There is a choice of 5, 10, (the 13 mile option is not available in 2025) and 15.2 mile routes. Route maps, route descriptions and GPX files can all be found on the Beverley AC website. If you are not familiar with the intended route, please download a map and study it in advance. As with last year, the start will have to take a slight diversion via Flemingate and Minster Avenue due to the inaccessibility of Spark Mill Lane. Some paper maps will be available on the day. The route is not marshalled. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs welcome at the owner’s risk. Please dress appropriately for the weather.
Free soup and roll afterwards at the Leisure Centre, being served from 11:30am. Vegan version available. Please leave muddy shoes outside.
Toilets, showers and changing facilities available in the leisure centre. Lockers are available but please bring along your own padlock.
We look forward to welcoming you!

Beverley AC and friends run for Ukraine
On Wednesday evening 23rd March Beverley AC invited other local clubs to join is in a fund raiser for Ukraine. We invited Barton and District Athletic Club to join us, who also run in yellow and blue, as a mark of solidarity for our Ukrainian friends. Around 120 people dressed in their club colours and enjoyed run routes around Beverley of between 3 and 7 miles. Through the generous donations of everyone, in providing raffle prizes and a wonderful spread of buffet food, we enjoyed a really lovely evening and raised £1000 for the Disasters Emergency Committee. Our thanks to all who came and supported, and to BADAC for topping up the donation pot to tip it over the £1000 mark!

Handicap Series 2022
A core part of the club is our annual handicap race series. This enables those of all abilities to compete on a level playing field through a variety of races from 5k to half marathon distance. Running parallel with it is the knockout cup.
This year, despite most races now being scheduled, we will still offer the 5k and 10k time trials which gives our handicappers really useful data to work with.
2022 schedule
As of date of publication these events are all scheduled to run. If restrictions permit a race from taking place, you will be notified of new arrangements via the club newsletter.
We will start this years series with 2 time trials which will allow members the opportunity to get an excellent base line for the series.

Pass the Baton Relay Challenge 20/21
Early on in the first lockdown in April 2020, Nicole Dawson got us all motivated by creating the Relay Challenge. The rules were simple. Once you were nominated for a leg, make a home-made number which corresponded to your leg number, go for a run of any pace and distance preferrably in your club vest and number, then pass your home-made baton on to another Bev AC member. Our “batons” varied enormously, There was evidence of an actual relay baton at one point, however for the most part they consisted of things like the obligatory banana, paint rollers, bottles of wine (a worryingly common theme), trophies, dogs, cats, tortoises, chip spice, chip spice and a black pudding! The relay covered ?? miles, included 143 members and ran for just over a year. For her efforts Nicole Dawson was awarded a special Lockdown award. We have a photo album of a lot of our “Battoners” on our website.

Handicap series rules – updated October 2024
Club handicap – rules revised Oct 2024
The handicap secretary has put together a brief explanation of the Handicap & Knockout Cup Series, which has also had some minor refinements to act as an aide memoir for long term members and useful info for new members.
Each year the club has a Handicap Race Series; the Handicap League, along with the 10K series and Knockout Cup.
The Handicap Series is made up of 12-15 races, nominated by the club. No one is obliged to run any, but the more you do the better chance of winning prizes at the end of the series. For each race you run you get points depending on how you perform versus your predicted time (handicap) based on recent results. At the end of the year the person with the most points from their best 6 races (2 short and 1 long plus best 3 others) wins.
The 10K and under series is much the same but you only need to run 3 races of 10K or shorter to qualify and it’s your best 3 results.
Within the list we include 2 or 3 club only races – Reverse Handicaps* – which are held at – Walkington (10K) and North Newbald (5 miles) in 2020. *Reverse Handicaps mean you start in reverse order of your predicted time so the slowest goes off first and the fastest last. In effect you should all finish at the same time if you run to your handicap.
The amendments to the update to rules in 2021 relate to:
- Clear lines on what races are used to calculate handicap times;
- How many races and how recent they must be (minimum 2 races within 6 months) to have a handicap time calculated;
- A new point score of 2 points added;
- Removal of the Green Jersey award;
- Minor other text changes and tidy ups.
The amendments to the rules that took place in October 2024 relate to:
- Removal of reference to the knockout cup which is being returned from the start of the 2025 series.
- Clarification that 3 qualifying 10ks will also be used to determine winners in the case of a tiebreak.
- Clarification that the handicapper may use other Parkrun results at their discretion.
- Clarification on how data is used to to set start times.
- Clarification that discretion may be used by handicapper as to which Parkrun result is used if Parkrun result was affected by a non-racing performance, for example the athlete tail walked or volunteered.
If you want any further clarification contact our handicap and knock-out cup secretary, Ken Pearson.
The Great 2021 Chicken Run!
As lockdown restrictions eased Beverley AC has been able to organise our long awaited (or de-laid…) “Chicken Run”. We had hoped to offer this last year, however it was not safe to do so. All those members who wanted to be involved, were given a recipient name, address and dietary info…and were tasked with secret delivery of an Easter treat! We witnessed some eggcellent offerings…

Everyone who took part really got into the spirit of it and were involved in something eggstra special. From making big paper mache egg bunnies to donning slightly disturbing rabbit masks! Jayne Dale (I have to let that Easter cat out the bag there to give her the credit she deserves!) kindly knitted little hats for Creme Eggs and delivered them to the junior squad at their training session. Of course the hats were in our Club colours!
Well done everyone….it was an eggstraodinary thing!

Thinking of trying us on for size?
Beverley AC are currently running Strength and Conditioning sessions on Mondays at 7pm, our regular ‘Club Run’ on Wednesdays at 6:20pm, ‘Speed training’ on Thursdays at 6:30pm and an ‘Introduction to speed training’ session on Fridays at 6:00pm. Find out more about each of these sessions on our Train With Us page. If you would like to attend a session please contact the secretary Fiona or our membership secretary Catriona in advance.
We operate a Welcome Runner squad at every club run (Wednesday), which gives any new joiners support on that first run and an opportunity to find out more about the club. It also gives our leaders an opportunity to safely assess your ability so we can signpost you to a running buddy of a similar ability the next time you come back. Wherever possible we organise runners according to pace before setting of. This gives new people who don’t know who to run with a chance to meet similarly paced people. Also on our Wednesday run we offer a group warm-up event at 6:20pm comprising a gentle jog and running drills. If you have hopped straight out the car to join us it’s the perfect start!
We look forward to welcoming you to our friendly and inclusive club.

Beaver Trail Sunday 23rd November 2025 10am

As of date of publication these events are all scheduled to run. If restrictions permit a race from taking place, you will be notified of new arrangements via the club newsletter.

- Clear lines on what races are used to calculate handicap times;
- How many races and how recent they must be (minimum 2 races within 6 months) to have a handicap time calculated;
- A new point score of 2 points added;
- Removal of the Green Jersey award;
